Start...

...To Finish!

Putting the log, bark and everything, onto the lathe.
Starting to turn the bark off and make the log round.
Getting the log closer to round.
The log is round and now you can see what kind of color is inside the log.
Starting to turn the corner off the bottom of the vase.
Need to make sure the tools are sharp for safer and more fun turning!
Starting to define the shape of the vase.
Refining the shape.
Finished shape.
Taking the vase off the lathe.
Here's what it's looking like so far!
Need to put the chuck on the lathe. The chuck will allow Brandon to later take away the point on the right (tail stock) to drill the hole in the vase for the glass tube.
Putting the vase into the chuck.
Now it's ready for some finishing touches...
Cutting it to length.
Some finishing touches on the shape.
It's done and ready for the next step!
Drilling the hole for the glass tube which will allow fresh flowers.
Inserting the tube...
...It fits!
Cedar can be toxic and no dust is good for your lungs, so make sure the filter is on.
Sanding, sanding and more sanding...
Smooth as a baby's bottom!
Finish is applied.
Taking the vase out of the chuck.
The dowel in the lathe that Brandon is pointing to is the same diameter as the hole.
The vase is put into the dowel so the bottom can be finished.
Starting to turn the base off the vase.
The finial cut!
Sanding the bottom.
Applying finish to the bottom of the vase.
Finished product. Even a vase will create quite a pile of shavings!
