Brandon Mackie - Woodturning

It's a rare sight, but Brandon's studio was clean so he decided to get some pictures and show you what it looks like. Please click the images to enlarge them. Below the pictures is a short video of the studio.

Vicmarc VL300 3HP Longbed Lathe - This is the lathe used for most projects. It can spin the wood from 150-2700 RPM. The Vicmarc will turn wood up to 24" in diameter and 52" long. It was purchased in June of 2005 for almost $5,000. Jet Variable Speed Mini Lathe - This is the lathe that was used for the first 4 years. The Jet will spin wood up to 10" in diameter and 14" long. One of the most important tools in the shop is an air filter - This filter is powerful enough to clean all of the dust out of the air in about 10 seconds.

This is a picture of the drill press (left) and the bandsaw (right) and the pile of wood that is ready for the lathe (everywhere!). Another view of the Vicmarc Lathe. There's tools and wood everywhere! The verticle tools behind the lathe are what is used to shape the wood as it is spinning. Some of the tools have handmade handles on them so Brandon can easily see which tool is which at a glance.
